Info sheet Design and implementation of a professional shielding

Project: Penthouse apartment in a new building, 4th floor

Measure: Shielding with Cuprotect® and other components incl. shielding concept / remeasurement

Flux density before:

2,122 µW/m²

Flux density after, dormitory:

2 µW/m²

Flux density after, living room:

1 µW/m²

(+/-3dB tolerance)

This shielding measure was realised on the basis of a shielding concept prepared by „EMV vor Ort“ who also accompanied the project. The concept combines a variety of shielding components:

  • Massive brick (T9, 99,7% shielding effectivity, i.e. 25 dB, but only in the frequency range of UMTS: 2.11 to 2.17 GHz; no shielding within the range of GSM 900: 925 to 960 MHz)

  • Cuprotect® in wall and roof areas; roller shutter housings

  • Ziegelmeier RF-windows

  • Screed shielding with a metallic screed grille against DECT and WLAN radiation originating from the neighbour apartments below

Measuring results after completed shielding:

The essential shielding element in the frequency range below approx. 1,400 MHz is Cuprotect®, whereas at higher frequencies the shielding success results from the combination of Cuprotect® and the T9 bricks. GSM 1800 (1,805 to 1,880 MHz) immissions into the apartment lie below detection limit.

The remeasurement with spectrum analyser and corresponding antenna did not reveal any building-biological conspicuousness.

The effectually obtained shielding reached 27 dB and more.

Prior to shielding works a professional measurement (survey) shall be carried out and a shielding concept shall be drawn up.
A remeasurement at the shielded building shows the success of the completed shielding measure. The certificate "Das elektrosmogfreie Haus" (e-smog-free house) can be awarded if all prerequisites are met.
